Naima Joris

Naima Joris only sang her first songs when she was 27 and after various collaborations as a backing vocalist, she was asked as a guest vocalist by her father Chris Joris (a famous Belgian jazz musician) to further explore her voice as a lead vocalist.

Funeral, Tonight’s The Night, Electro-Shock Blues, One Last Laugh In A Place Of Dying, Skeleton Tree, ... The grieving process put into motion by losing someone you love often produces brilliant art.

Dark, intense songs that try to process the pain and sorrow. Fragile and personal stories that strike a universal chord and from which you as a listener can derive solace, understanding and strength. Naima Joris’s debut EP has a powerful, very powerful message, without using many words. Five songs, pure and reduced to the essence. Songs that are sparing with language and sound and don’t shun silence, which are therefore even more effective.

“Soon, I will get there soon ... and we’ll meet again, we’ll get together like we used to like we should, like I said we would”

The single 'Soon' kicks off Naima's untitled EP impressively. Grand and intimate, Naima's voice is soothing and the horns chill you through the bone when words fail. “I’ve got my heart and my soul and my heart is yours”

‘My Home’ concludes the EP as serenely as it is impressive with soft guitar strumming and a melancholic euphonium part. In between, Naima creates her own, unique universe with three more songs (including the single ‘Bellybutton’). Dark, compelling and stunning. Naima Joris only sang her first songs when she was 27 and after various collaborations as a backing vocalist, she was asked as a guest vocalist by her father Chris Joris (a famous Belgian jazz musician) to further explore her voice as a lead vocalist.

She then took the time to give that voice its own repertoire.

Kurt Overbergh (Ancienne Belgique) recommends Naima Joris:

Naima Joris has a mesmerizing voice that cuts deep through every (jazz) soul. Listen to her heartbreaking version of Thom Yorke’s ‘Bloom’ and you’ll be instantly hookedAnd pray to gOD: ‘Thank you lord for sending such a talented artist to planet Earth!’"
