Abel Ghekiere
Belgian multi-instrumentalist Abel Ghekiere weaves minimalist jazz, folk and field recordings into an intimate, intuitive sound that feels both heavy and tender. His music moves with openness and quiet euphoria, guided by the same sensitivity that defines his live performances. A gentle force in Belgium’s experimental scene, Abel invites listeners into a world where every note breathes.Abel Ghekiere is a Belgian multi instrumentalist with a sound that comes from merging minimalist jazz, traditional folk and field recordings. His debut album Voor het verdwijnt, en daarna was lauded as a new sound, heavy but comforting. In his new music, he plays with more openness, gentleness and euphoria. The inspiration for his intuitive, stripped-down form of songwriting comes from the likes of Nils Økland, Sufjan Stevens and Caroline.
Abel is a guitarist by training but takes clarinet and banjo with him in the studio and on stage. His new album In de verte, dit uitzicht will be released online and on vinyl with Rotkat Records on February 7th 2025 with a release concert on February 20th in Botanique (Brussels).
Live, he is accompanied by Tobias Volckaert (sax), Orlan Ghekiere (drums) and Hendrike Scharmann (violin).
