Birame
Blurring the lines between pop, R&B, and experimental sound, Birame crafts music that is as intimate as it is bold. Rooted in his queer and Senegalese identity, his songs explore belonging and faith through emotional depth and texture. Expect raw honesty, hypnotic vocals, and lush electronic layers. For Birame, music is the bridge between his queer identity and multicultural roots. Blending introspection with storytelling, he explores themes of identity and religion through electro-acoustic textures that move within and beyond the boundaries of pop and R&B.
Birame’s love for music began at a young age with after-school jazz piano lessons. He later started performing solo with electronic beats at small events, but soon longed for the energy and dynamics of a live band. At the KASK & Conservatorium in Ghent, where he currently studies music production, he found four talented musicians who complemented his artistic vision. Together, they gave their first performance at Zebrastraat Showcase#Music (Ghent) and won the competition, earning the opportunity to close Zebrawoods 2024–2025.
Shortly after, Birame was selected as one of the nine finalists of De Nieuwe Lichting 2025. Currently, Birame also performs as a singer and actor in ‘PEEKABOO’, a theatre production by Maxime Dreesen, touring Belgium and the Netherlands in 2025.
At just 19 years old, Birame uses music to explore the tensions between his queer identity and his Senegalese heritage. His work blends the distinctive sounds of left-field R&B and experimental pop, drawing influence from icons such as Solange, Sampha, FKA twigs, James Blake and Björk.
With his debut single ‘The Worst Parts of You’ he gained airplay on Radio 1, 3FM, and other major stations. Together with his live band, he performed at The Sound of the Belgian Underground in Botanique and Maanrock. He is currently an artist in residence at Trix.
