How good it felt to be back in Groningen after two corona editions and to see everyone again. There were lots of meetings and networking, new plans were forged, egg balls were eaten, after-dinner chats in the Knarie and even a tear was shed here and there. But above all there was a lot of music, with our extensive Belgian delegation (19 bands: M. Chuzi, Dienne, Sam De Nef, Meyy, Chibi Ichigo, Echt!, Ramkot, Mimi, Avalanche Kaito, Rori, Cobra The Impaler, The Haunted Youth, Tukan, Ila, Catherine Graindorge, Kids With Buns, Bolis Pupul, Lander & Adriaan, Psychonaut) doing exceptionally well this year.

The full activity report by PR office Factory 92 will follow for those interested, but VPRO's 3voor12 put no less than 7 Belgian bands in its top 25 of best bands of the festival. Lander & Adriaan made the top 3 and The Haunted Youth was named best band of the festival. The latter was also nominated for the prestigious Music Moves Europe Award.

The festival was sold out with more than 40,000 visitors. The conference section for 4,000 professionals from 50 different countries was also well attended, with no fewer than 258 people working in the Belgian music industry taking part. 2 young professionals from Flanders were allowed to attend this part for free and received a tailor-made programme. During the 150 panel discussions, interviews and keynotes, urgent issues and the need for social change in the music industry were addressed. There were also conferences from 2 networks to which VI.BE belongs: EMEE (the European body of export agencies) and ETEP (the European talent exchange platform).

On Wednesday, Rock Werchter got to go home with The Green Operations Award for sustainable organizing on a large scale. The Belgium Booms drink the day after provided an opportunity for more than 500 national and international delegates to network, and on Friday there was a sold-out dinner for the Belgian delegation at our headquarters The Social Hub.
